AR-15 Buffer Tail Cap

Replacement tail cap for your AR buffer. Also referred to as the bumper, buffer tip or plug.

The wedge-shaped synthetic tail cap, or tip, located at the rear of your AR's recoil buffer is designed to withstand thousands of rounds. However, its longevity can be compromised by factors that increase the frequency or force of its impact against the rear of the receiver extension.

Initially, the buffer tail's outer diameter closely matches that of the aluminum buffer body. Over time, as it expands outward, its dampening capabilities diminish, leading to increased wear on components, alterations in bolt carrier speed, and overall system timing issues. Furthermore, as the tip expands, it also shortens, potentially causing the carrier on .308-sized ARs to travel too far rearward. This can result in impacts against the front of the receiver extension, the lower receiver, or both, posing operational challenges.

To replace your buffer tail cap, simple remove the existing by removing the pin holding it in place. Due to variations in pin hole placement, this replacement tail cap is not drilled. Insert the new tail cap and drill a hole through the plastic by aligning with the pin hole. Reinsert the pin and you are good to go!
